Expository Prose Assignment Essay Example for Free

Expository Prose Assignment Essay 1.Ed Pilkington purpose for this article is to inform the audience that he wants to abolish the rule of execution because in this article, the U.S legal system made a fatal mistake by sentencing an innocent man to his death.   This article is in expository style because it has a thesis that explains what he is going to talk about and it has the proper structure of beginning, body and conclusion. Another reason is because the author is explaining his knowledge on what he believes on, which is informing his audience by sharing the trail of an innocent man. The thesis in this article is explicit. It is explicit because the author clearly states it in the article near the beginning. â€Å"It is now clear that a person was executed for a crime he did not commit, and his name –Carlos Deluna – is being shouted from the rooftops of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.† This article is also considered in expository style because it includes methods of exposition. One of the methods that are being used is the short anecdote. This method is shown when the author explains a short flashback of the day of the murder and this evidences to the audience that there is proof that Carlos Deluna is innocent. â€Å"Carlos Deluna told the jury that on the day of the murder he’d run into Hernandez, who he’d known for the previous five years. The two men, who both lived in the Southern Texas town of Corpus Christi, stopped off at a bar. Hernandez went over to a gas station, the Shamrock, to buy something, and when he didn’t return Deluna went over to see what was going on.† Another method is used when the author contrast the trial of OJ Simpson with the Carlos trial. â€Å"This wasn’t the trial of OJ Simpson.† The author uses this method because he is trying to reach out to his audience by saying that this case has no real evidence that Carlos Deluna is the real criminal. While contrasting to the case of OJ Simpson where there was actually proof that OJ was the murderer. The third method of exposition that is used is the process of cause and effect. This example is shown when the author explains how the detectives failed to carry out important evidence like blood samples. The cause in this case would be the detectives not examining blood samples and the effect would be the death of an innocent man 2.The rhetorical situation in this case would be any American citizen that listens or reads about the news and the writer would be Ed Pilkington in New York Times. Ed Pilkington is grabbing the attention of American citizens by informing the citizens that a fatal mistake; made by the U.S legal system caused an innocent man to his death. This article is written for almost all Americans because Pilkington is sending a message to the citizens that they should be more aware of the U.S legal system from now on because miscarriages of justice might happen again. Another reason why this article is for all U.S citizens is because the structure of the article is not long and not too difficult to read. The structure of this article is simple and easy to understand. Pilkington made his paragraphs short but long enough to explain the article precisely. Meaning all Americans can read this article, not just intellectual geniuses. Lastly, the nature of the relationship between the author and the reader is American to another American. The reason for this is because Pilkington wants all Americans to hear about his article, not just specific amount of people. So Pilkington (an American) is explaining his story with other Americans. 3.The definition of style is a characteristic manner of expression, combining the idea that is being expressed with the individuality (the particular voice) of the author. Style includes such general qualities as diction, sentence structure and variety, imagery, rhythm, coherence, and emphasis. In this article the style the author uses is simple and understandable. The author uses some of the qualities that are mentioned in the definition. One of the qualities the author uses is diction. The diction in this piece of article is informal and easy to understand. The vocabulary is not difficult and it is easy to read so most Americans will be able to understand the entire article. Also another style quality that is used is the sentence structure. The sentence structure of this article is short but exact. Meaning it has the right amount of important information and since its short, most readers would not lose interest from it. 4.The relationship between the audiences is Ed Pilkington the author, to any American citizen. Ed Pilkington in this article seems to know his audience very well. He grabs the audience’s attention by using an easy type of style that can be understood by the general public, while still explaining the author’s opinion. The author not only grabs the audience’s attention, he expresses his purpose through out the whole article. The author’s purpose is to try to convince his audience that the capital punishment of execution should be abolished. Like I said before, the author uses a style that is effectively easy for the audience to understand the meaning of criminal and political matters. Even though the author’s style makes the article well written, the article seems to be less effective then effectual. The author explains the article by implying the meaning in one case. The author could have compared more articles on fatal mistakes from the U.S legal system because the trial occurred few years from now and as years go bye, the Government legal system has been improved. Furthermore, the article is effective because the author proves his thesis by describing how an innocent man was sentenced to death but the fact that the author used one example, makes it a risky decision to follow. So overall, the author proves his thesis by using the right type of style, but the concept of abolishing the lethal injection does not seem comprehensible with the proof of just one article.

The Issue Of Teenage Pregnancy

The Issue Of Teenage Pregnancy When you are a little child you always imagine what life will be like when youre older. As a child you think you will grow up a singer, firefighter, policeman or something special; you dont ever think that you will become a teen mother or parent. Teen pregnancy is becoming a complex issue in the United States (Klein, 2005). It not only affects the families of the teen parents, it also affects the government, health care, educators, and the teen (Klein, 2005). When a little girl grows up she always says that she wants to be a mommy one day like her own mother, but never states that she wants to be a teenage mother. Young pre-teens and teens from ages 12-18 are increasingly having babies these days. Even though they dont know it their young age and stage in development will have a great impact on the growing infant. Being a teen mom will not only affect their lives, it will affect their babies. Girls around the ages of nine until about sixteen years old go to puberty and menarche which is sometimes difficult for girls to understand and be comfortable with. Going through the developmental stage of puberty girls develop into young ladies and their bodies develop more; these developments are the ones that attract the boys. When girls are ready to explore them never really think about all of the outcomes of their actions. About one fourth of American adolescents have had intercourse by the age of fifteen years old (Klein, 2005). Most of the time, an adolescents first time is without using contraception;63% of teens reported did not use a condom their last intercourse(Klein,2005) .This can be a huge factor with teenage pregnancy and the increased rates of STDs. When teens have intercourse and experiment, they dont think twice about getting pregnant or what could happen in the future. Teen mothers are not full developed in their stage of development. Their brains and bodies are still immature and some arent even developed enough to hold a child. A child at the age of twelve is in their awkward stage in development when their body starts to look weird to them. Carrying a child at that age has serious risks due to the fact that the child does not have the body to carry an infant. With 20% of 740,000 U.S. teen girls getting pregnant a year, prevention strategies should be taken (Berk, 2012). Also, teen mothers often do not know they are pregnant until it is too late, which then they do not have a good start on the prenatal care of the baby. Most teen mothers still smoke, drink, and have inadequate diets that can cause complications to the infant (Berk, 2012).Teen moms also do not have the funds to get good prenatal care and care for themselves while they are pregnant. Poor prenatal care of the infant can suppress the development if the immune system and cause problem s with the respiratory system (Berk, 2012). Teen mothers have a higher rate of having babies that are underweight, and there is a higher risk for Down syndrome in the fetus. The United States holds the record for the highest teen pregnancies in the world (Gallup-Black Weitzman, 2004). The shocking part about teen pregnancy today is that it is lower than it was in 1991(Berk, 2012). Teen pregnancy also has other leading factors to it that psychologist havent investigated yet. The new shows on TV called Teen Mom and Sixteen and Pregnant are factors to teen pregnancy are many ways. Teenage girls are watching these shows and saying Oh this is all I have to do to get a show on TV or Wow I hope I can be a teen mom and go on that show! Teen girls watching these shows look at the lives of other teens becoming parents but bypass the fact that they are struggling and look at the fact that they are making money for being teen mothers. Not only do the teens on these dreadful shows become TV stars, their faces start to become posted on all these different magazines such as People magazine or Seventeen magazine. This makes teen girls want to buy the magazine and influences them to get pregnant even more. MTV and other television stations should create shows on what teen pregnancy does to your life and to prevent teen pregnancy rather than have teen mothers flaunt their pregn ancy around. The only positive thing about the show Sixteen and Pregnant is that it is more of a documentary and it does show that the teens are struggling and having a hard time being a teenager and a parent. Adolescent teen mothers usually come from a low income or poor family. About 83% of teen moms who give birth are from a low income household (Klein, 2005). The economic circumstances of teen mothers are a huge issue. Due to the fact that most teen parents are not graduated high school and most of them end up dropping out of school, those being able to find a good job to support their new family are extremely difficult. Usually teen mothers and fathers find low-paying, unskilled jobs which can only provide the new baby with the basic necessities (Berk, 2012). Teenage mothers cannot work until about 6 weeks after the child is born, so they are more dependent on the teen father and their parents to support the teen and the baby they just delivered. Teen mothers not only have to deal with the stress of having a new baby, they also have to deal with stress of income and school. Discussion Teen pregnancy is a huge issue in the United States and all around the world. Teens from the ages of 12-19 are having sex and most of them arent realizing the full consequences of intercourse without contraception and birth control. Condoms and birth control are free in many states and all a teen has to do is go to the nearest clinic and ask for them. With approximately 900,000 teenage girls getting pregnant every year in the United states (Klein, 2005), prevention measures should be taken. Teen moms do not realize that their bodies arent fully developed to carry children and that they are not fully mature enough to become a parent. Most teen moms become single mothers due to the fact that the teen father runs off because he cannot handle to pressures of parenting. Teenage girls are having children and not thinking about the drastic change that the child is going to have on them and their families. Even though 35% of adolescent pregnancies end in abortion (Gallup-Black Weitzman, 2004 ); teens that have their babies are unaware of what being a parent is. Also, teen mothers are most likely to drop out of high school and then will not ever get the chance to see how the rest of their high school years, graduation, and college experiences would be. Their incomes will be lower because most fathers or mothers will not have a successful job. About 50% of teen parents have also had a criminal record or have been committed of some illegal offense (Berk, 2012). Through these facts and main ideas stated in this research paper, teen pregnancy is clearly an issue and should be pronounced as an issue. There should be more methods of prevention taken so that teens get a clear view of what their life would be like as a teen parent. High schools and middle schools should address this issue to their students to help them realize what a great impact becoming pregnant as a teen has on them and their whole world. Teens should use condoms and learn more about what the actions and consequences of sex are before and while they do it. Also there should be more support group or other centers for teen moms to meet up and discuss how their lives have changed and support one another. Becoming a teen mother is not the end of the world, and the mothers should know that. Teen mothers need support and do teens without children to learn the changes and to prevent the other teens from having children at such a young age. Throughout this research and the articles su pporting this research, teens should follow through and learn about prevention and contraception so they can become successful and live their lives before becoming a parent.

Odysseus Relationship with Telemachus in Homers Odyssey :: Homer Odyssey Essays

Odysseus' Relationship with Telemachus in Homer's Odyssey Throughout the last books of The Odyssey Homer tells us how Odysseus restores his relationships with his friends and relatives at Ithaca. Perhaps one of the most revealing of these restoration episodes is Odysseus' re-encounter with his son, Telemachus. This re-encounter serves three main purposes. First, it serves to portray Telemachus' likeness to his father in the virtues of prudence, humility, patience, and planning. Secondly, it is Odysseus' chance to teach his son to be as great a ruler as Odysseus himself is. Lastly, Homer uses this re-encounter to emphasize the importance of a family structure to a society. To be able to understand the impact that this meeting had on Odysseus it is necessary to see that Telemachus has grown since his first appearances in the poem and obviously since his last contact with his father; Odysseus left Telemachus as an infant now their relationship is a man to man relationship rather than a man to child relationship. Of the many proofs of Telemachus' maturation three are sufficient to render an accurate account of what virtues he gained. The gained virtues shown are courage, wisdom, and prudence. Courage is shown when Telemachus decides to go around Nestor's house rather than passing through it, for Telemachus goes out to sea knowing that an ambush awaits him. This wisdom is manifested in his knowledge that if he stops Nestor's hospitality will delay him even more. And prudence is shown in Telemachus' ability to control his desires for comfort in Nestor's house and his decision to endure hardship at sea. Next Telemachus' confidence and hospitality are shown when he takes in Theochlamenos the seer. In the beginning of the poem Telemachus is not confident enough in his ability to provide hospitality to Athena disguised as Mentor, but now Telemachus is happy to provide the seer with refuge. Another proof of Telemachus' virtues is his confidence in ordering his mother and her maids to com ply with his will; their obedience shows us that he is worthy of respect. Thus Telemachus possesses the virtues necessary to be a ruler: courage, wisdom, prudence, confidence, and hospitality. Now we come to the re-encounter of father and son.

Junk E-Mail is Abusive to the Internet and its Users :: Argumentative Persuasive Argument Essays

Junk E-Mail is Abusive to the Internet and its Users    With in the past decade, the term â€Å"junk mail† has transformed from a pile of flashy advertisements and unnecessary coupon books to an intruding, pervasive, and even offensive collection of electronic messages. Though, the distribution of postal mail for the purpose of advertisement is governed by effective laws, distribution of unsolicited email runs free across the internet at the expense of others. The solicitation of â€Å"junk e-mail† fosters profit for few, at the inconvenience of many. Though the solicitors of junk email are to blame for the mail itself, the government is to blame for the continuing flow and lack of response to this dilemma. Email is one of the most popular means of communications today. According to our textbook, Media Now, â€Å"Obviously, the ‘killer’ electronic application these days is email. Its presence is all but inbiquitous among computer users and its growth skyrockets day by day† (LaRose, 362). In fact, email is even more widely used than the United States Postal Service (LaRose, 362). If email circulates more mail than the post office, then why is email less regulated? The internet and email is a new technology which Congress is unsure on how to regulate. Email has become popular only within the past few years, but regulation must be enacted. According to the Final Comments to the Federal Trade Commission on Unsolicited Commercial Email which was compiled in June of 1997, the burdens of junk email is expected to grow. In fact, most people do not want this unsolicited mail sent to them. World research reports that over one half of the people they surveyed â€Å"hated† junk mail, and another one fourth found it â€Å"bothersome†(Semilof, 1). Something must be done. One might ask, however, why email needs to be regulated. The core of the problem is the extra costs and intrusions of privacy which junk email provokes. Senders of junk email slow the processing and quality of Internet Service Providers, intrude privacy by harvesting email addresses, and unfairly distribute mail to uninterested consumers. Junk email incures storage costs, productivity costs, bandwidth or telephone line costs, and processing costs (Simmons, 24). Senders of this mail benefit from the burden on others. Though the senders of this mail need to be stopped, action must be taken to stop them.

Colonialism and Imperialism - The White Mans Burden Essay example --

Imperialism: The White Man's Burden      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In one of his most famous poems, Rudyard Kipling said, "Take up the white man's burden!" (146). He was only one of many who believed in the virtues of imperialism in the late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries. During that period, imperialism was on the rise, and Africa was being swallowed up by competing European nations. The imperialists had many arguments supporting imperialism. They said it was beneficial and, in some cases, essential. Their arguments did not satisfy everyone, but that did not bother them. The justifications ranged from economics to social services, while touching on everything else in between (Hayes 222-3).   Ã‚     Kipling was one of the most talked about authors of his time. Born in India and the son of a military man, he learned the ways of British imperialism (Orel 333). He enjoyed the company of British soldiers and spent a lot of time talking with them (Hayes 228). Being friends with the soldiers, he probably sympathized with them when he heard their stories of the uncivilized people of Africa (Rhodes 178). This known, it is easier to understand why he viewed imperialism as the duty of the Europeans. Kipling argued that it was the European's responsibility to civilize the downcast natives of Africa. He also pointed out how they could stop the spread of disease and bring food to those who would have starved. Kipling spoke of the fact that there had been many wars in Africa and that he believed the white people could finally bring them to an end (Kipling 146-7).   Ã‚  Ã‚   Many Europeans agreed with Kipling on these points; however, they did not limit their reasons for imperialism to only these. Beowulf: Movie or Poem? Essay

Before watching the Beowulf movie, I had the opportunity to read the poem along with ghthe class. I thought the movie was going to be a slight different from the epic poem, but that it was still going to stick to the message that the poem had given us. As we started to watch the movie, I noticed that I as completely wrong because the movie is almost completely different from the epic poem. The movie kept very few elements from the original epic poem. In the poem, Grendel attacks Heorot because he is a descendent of Cain that has been exiled into darkness. The movie let us know that Grendel was the son of Hrothgar, the king. Grendel could not attack or go against God himself, so he took it against God’s followers. In the movie, Grendel attacked Heorot because he cannot stand music and singing. Noise really bothered his head and ears. In both the movie and poem, Beowulf fights Grendel without any kind of weapons or armor because Grendel isn’t using any of that either. Beowulf wants it to be a fair fight. Beowulf tears Grendel’s arm off and hangs it up; I think to symbolize the victory. Another major difference to me, is that in the poem, Beowulf kills Grendel’s mother as soon as possible, while in the movie somehow Beowulf is seduced by her. Beowulf never kills Grendel’s mother. I think the movie producers took a really big leap in this part, it went completely different from the epic poem. Grendel’s mother is also described as a lizard-type of creature that was unappealing and unattractive. Completely opposite to the epic poem, Grendel’s mother was provocative and seductive in the movie, maybe this is the reason why Beowulf gives in to her. As a result of this matter, Beowulf becomes the father of a dragon. The epic poem never mentions about Beowulf becoming a father, he was always loyal and faithful to his wife. Finally in the poem, Beowulf returns to his homeland, where he became old  and became king. Beowulf had to fight the dragon along with his knights working as a team, but instead, the knights had given up and weren’t helping him at all. Wiglaf is the only person who reaches out and helps him fight the dragon. This signifies that the Anglo-Saxon Era was coming to an end. Despite all of this, Beowulf never gives up, he fights to the end. In the movie, Beowulf never returns to his homeland, instead he becomes king of the Danes as a result of Hrothgar’s suicide. Beowulf ends up killing the dragon in both versions, but in the movie, Beowulf seemed to have lost the heroic, fearless, and courageous values. Beowulf just seemed like he had given up. Maybe it was culpability about all his lies that had finally got to him. I enjoyed reading the poem much better than watching the movie. I think the movie- producers shouldn’t have taken so much out of the original poem. They made Beowulf seem like a completely different person. The original Beowulf poem portrayed many of the Anglo-Saxon values, while in the movie, it just seemed like they didn’t portray any of them at all. I wanted to see Beowulf just like they portrayed him in the poem. I wanted to see Beowulf being an honorable and heroic figure that never gave up on it’s people.

Lost in a Forest

Katrina Pham Ms. Leang English 1 HP, Period 1 3 October 2012 Lost in a Forest â€Å"It’s too dark, Katrina. I can’t see! † cried Christopher, my baby cousin. â€Å"Slow down! If I lose you, the monsters are going to swallow me whole. † I heard him, but his whimpers only exacerbated the situation, which was already worsening by the second. The sun had nearly disappeared behind the mountain, and the darkness was quickly claiming the night. Out of instinct, I grabbed his hand and we ran as quickly as we could wherever there was a path. Not even in my wildest dream could I have imagined how easily our pleasant afternoon stroll could turn into the chilling experience of my life, the night Christopher and I got lost in the forest by ourselves. With each of us and our crazy schedules, summer was the best time for my entire family to unwind and enjoy a delightful vacation together. It was quite the struggle trying to agree on the perfect destination. â€Å"I think we should go to Africa and see that fat giraffe I saw on Tumblr,† I suggested as my family listened to my silly reasoning. â€Å"Be quiet, weirdo.Deciding because of tumblr is just foolish. Let me and Percian decide, so we’d at least have a better reason,† Leon, my 16-year-old brother, retorted back almost instantaneously. â€Å"If you like animals so much, what about going to the Brazilian Amazon? There’s nice scenery and pretty animals, I think,† My 17-year-old brother, Percian, said excitingly. â€Å"Oh really? Like that’s a better reason! † I giggled, pointing at Leon. â€Å"Let’s hope no one gets lost in that forest,† Percian chuckled and glared at me. Surely, he should have knocked on wood after that, but no one could have seen what was in store for us.Nevertheless, it was settled; my parents decided to go with Percian’s idea, and to bring Chris along while his parents were on a business travel. We stayed at the Tropical Manaus, a hotel that was just 50 yards from the forest. Tropical Manaus had a beautiful pool centered between two tall buildings, with a coffee shop nearby. The suite we stayed in had a warm element that reminded us of home. From the patio, you could see a forest of palm trees bordering a stunning yard that housed a mini zoo packed with colorful parrots, playful monkeys, and even frolicking baby leopards. Tropical Manaus was truly an exquisite resort of the Amazon. My parents unpacked as I ran to find Chris. My mom yelled for both Leon and Percian to look after me, but they were busy with their own exploration. Chris chased me around the lobby, filled with excitement since we knew Brazil would be the perfect place to play hide and seek. We ran and laughed nonstop, as we found different places to hide. Caught up in the moment, I could not care about anything more than our simple chasing; much less realize how far we were from our protection of our guardians. And, it was that neglectful and irresponsibility that would lead to the greatest terrifying experience of my life. After nearly an hour of playing, Chris and I decided that this was the last round of hide and seek. So, I ran to find the ultimate hiding place. I hid under behind one of the palm trees, and heard my cousin’s footsteps. Not wanting to get caught by him, I swiftly dashed away from the zoo towards the farther palm tree. Although little did I know by then, we were unintentionally running into the Amazon Forest. I thought afterwards what a poor job my brothers had done looking after me. When my cousin and I cooled off, we looked around for a way back to the hotel.Eventually, none of scenes around appeared familiar. There was a moment when I thought we had walked into a maze that did not lead you near the final destination even if you strolled back to your previous traces. â€Å"Oh My God! I am so not going to sleep here! We got to find our way back before it is dark,† I de clared to my cousin. But, the insistent breeze blew the trees back and forth relentlessly, yielding eerie noises and creepy shadows throughout the forest. My cousin looked as pale as the fog surrounded him. My head kept twirling back and forth to search for any hint back to the hotel. We wanted to search back to the place where we started, but it seemed impossible. I suspected the trees itself for hiding the right path. My cousin and I lost track of time while we circled around the forest like vagabonds. â€Å"It is already pitched black! I’m sleepy. Let’s stop somewhere and sleep,† Chris whined. â€Å"Are you crazy? Sleeping in the middle of a forest? Bugs will bite without mercy! † â€Å"Whatever, you’re just over thinking it because you’re scared of animals and insects! † We walked around nowhere until the discord work of the night creatures began soon after the sky became entirely dark blue. The cacophony of the birds could make me stay up all night. I told myself however people symbolize birds, their singings are not even delicately close to a harmony. I could still see the animals flawlessly flying above the sky either to end their day or to start it. It was quite bizarre to know that birds never stopped for one moment and pondered how alluring their home is. About an hour later, we stopped to rest on the biggest tree we could find, since it offered more protection. The tree was probably a hundred feet in height, and each branch was as massive as a king-sized bed.I helped Chris climb up to the tenth branch, while I climbed after, afraid that I might lose balance and fall from such height. My stomach growled angrily and my throat left completely dry. For some time, I thought I was about to die from hunger and dehydration, not counting numerous poisonous bugs and flies might be wandering somewhere around. My feet felt funny and tickled, so I looked down to my feet. Under there was a lengthy line of ants that w ere one inch in length. In front of me appeared six spider webs (but good thing the spider was not found). Behind me, I saw a long, about seven inches scorpion-looking creature. It was skinnier than a scorpion, but had eight extended, stick looking legs with a pale peach color. The legs moved around slowly similar to crab speed and it had huge black pepper eyes larger than three inches in diameter. On the right was a smelly crow with strange color eyes staring back at me. On the left were three earwigs three centimeter in size with pale yellow wings and cricket’s legs. The earwigs had oily dark brown skin and hard armor bodies like a flying cockroach. The fact that I could perceive the nature directly in the Amazon had virtually gave me an opened eye nightmare. Aaaaahhhh! Oh My Freakin’ God! What are these sickening things!? † I shouted more than talk and started jumping up and down to kill as much ants as possible. I deeply had abhorrence for animals and insects since I was a child. And now they were creeping right on my feet. â€Å"Calm down! I brought a mini Raid with me! † My cousin screamed after me and took a Raid and started spraying everywhere. I closed my eyes and still jumping around. The thump-thump-thump of my heart was beating at the same time as the thump-thump-thump of the creatures that were running away from us barbarians.I could now feel the dead animals lying on my feet. At least I was wearing socks. Thankfully my throat stopped me from puking. My senses came back after I tortured myself with my own ear-splitting screaming. I was more tired from shouting than walking a thousand of miles. Swiftly, I set back the moment when my cousin started spraying the insects on the branch and thought: What the hell? He brought a mini Raid? This boy literally had severe problems. â€Å"Why do you have mini Raid in your pocket? † I asked my cousin while we settled down on each side to sleep. I found it in the lobby and took it away for fun,† my cousin replied, laughing at the same time. What a strange kid! I thought to myself. We dozed off while gossiping about our family. From what I could recall, I had an undisturbed, peaceful sleep. My cousin held my hand tight like superglue that was spread all over his palms. I felt safe and less naked in this hard king sized branch bed. All the same, the image of fear still cleverly crossed my mind and his in every course of the way. I sluggishly opened my eyes when the sun shined agitated directly at me, reminding myself the earsplitting alarm clock at home.It seemed almost too odd to wake up in such a beautiful, mild morning. Around my views were little teardrops of sunshine squeezing through the limited space of the leaves. Suddenly, I heard noises of footsteps and then someone cried out, â€Å"We found them! † I was tired and dizzy to care. Someone shook my shoulder hard and yelled out my name. I began to wipe eyes, regained my strength and memor ies from yesterday. My eyes landed on the person that was calling my name. It was the hotel manager. He looked relieve and in some way seemed to be expert in finding people, especially when they were on the tenth branch. How many people had gotten lost in this forest? I began asking myself nonsense questions. For a moment, I did not want to come down due to the firing wrath of my parents I predicted when I got off the tree. Eventually I came down because I thought of my brothers and they must have gotten a worse punishment than me. â€Å"Are you crazy? Why did run in this forest? † My dad asked, in a quite calm tone. My mom, however, â€Å"Your cousin just might disappear with you! What were you thinking? Did you know how concern we were!? † She sounded like she could scream at any moment. She scolded me some more while my dad held my cousin, although I was too tired to hear anything. My brothers sat next to me back in the hotel, looking very guilty. After an hour of lec ture, we acted like nothing happened. I did not want to speak of my adventure in forest anyways. â€Å"You know you should have knocked on wood when you said, ‘let’s hope no one gets lost. ’† I told Percian when we were at the hotel’s pool. â€Å"How old school could you be? † He said, laughing hard. Being lost in a forest was a lot different than being lost in the streets. There was no corner to be indecisive whether to turn left or right. It was just a vast space of plants and animals. I recalled some memories when I imagined myself living for eternity in this forest and kidnapped by an Indian tribe. I recognized more about responsibility, thanks to the petrifying journey in the Amazon. I no longer depended on the thought that someone would always be there for me. My life lesson taught me to be careful with too much â€Å"fun. † I hated the moment when I, alone, had caused a chaos for not just myself, but also the people that are clos e. It gave me a natural instinct of thinking before anything and opening my eyes at all time.
